Use an App to Automate Service Requests for Your Gym or Health Club

2 min

If you run a gym or health club, then you know that properly functioning equipment is one of the most important parts of keeping your customers and members happy. Keeping track of that equipment – including when it needs service – can certainly be a hassle. Fortunately, there are apps you can use to automate the entire process, allowing you to put your focus where it should be – on managing your business.

fitness equipment asset tracking The Old Way

Chances are good that you’ve used one of two methods to get the equipment in your gym or health club serviced. The first involves putting a sticker on the side of the equipment with the date of the last service, and then physically checking each and every sticker at least once per week to make certain you’re keeping up with things. The other involves keeping a spreadsheet or paper list of every piece of equipment you own along with its last date of service and the date it should be serviced again. While the latter two methods are certainly better, they’re not very efficient and they can lead to quite a bit of human error.

How Would an App Work?

An app can help simplify things a great deal. Just put a QR code sticker on each piece of equipment, scan the sticker with your smartphone, and then enter the information that is pertinent to that particular piece of equipment – including the maintenance dates. When the time comes for a particular item to be serviced, the app will notify your chosen service provider on your behalf. You don’t have to do anything at all other than keep track of when your service provider comes and goes. It makes everything much, much simpler and it almost completely negates the chance of human error. You’ll even get notifications when the app notifies your service providers, and you can set your own reminders, too.

What Else Can an App Do?

Of course, the app can do far more than just send automated service requests. It can also help you keep track of things like purchase dates and depreciation, which comes in very, very handy at tax time. It can help you decide when buying new equipment may be better than servicing your current equipment, and you can even put GPS tracking chips on smaller things that people can carry out the door unnoticed. This saves you plenty of time when it comes time to file a police report, and it also saves you money on replacing lost equipment.

Getting Started

If you’re interested in getting started with app-based service request automation, keep in mind that not all companies are the same. There are some that will offer you standard barcodes and barcode readers that come with limitations. Barcodes only store a little information, and the readers you need are expensive. Instead, stick to QR codes which old much more information and give you the ability to scan them with your smartphone.

Service request automation can save you time and money when it comes to running your gym or health club, which can inevitably lead to your success. You can spend less time worrying about your equipment and more time focused on your members, which will ultimately make or break you.
