Kellogg Crunchy Nut Uses QR Codes for Marketing

With the rise of digital technologies, marketing campaigns have taken giant strides in connecting with the consumers. With the availability of a wide number of channels such as social media, apps, online advertising, marketing blogs, and other forms of digital promotional campaigns, companies are now in a race to implement the best technologies that have the maximum penetration into the consumer base. Through the use of advanced data analysis capabilities, consumer behavior is being monitored online to generate better marketing content that can attract the consumer. One of the most popular technologies that businesses have adopted today is the QR code.

QR code is an extremely easy-to-implement technology that is quite powerful. A QR code is a 2D printed code that can store quite a lot of information. When scanned with an appropriate scanner, the QR code transmit information to the person’s device. Today, smartphones are strong enough to work as powerful scanners and all one needs to extract any kind of information out of QR codes is just their mobile phone. QR codes have a wide range of applications. From being used in asset tracking and equipment monitoring to booking and checking travel tickets, QR codes allow businesses to quickly and efficiently interact with their customers and send them the relevant information. They can also be used for communication. For example, by asking a customer to scan the QR code printed on the package, one directly connect them to the consumer support. QR code has also been used for a wide range of marketing ventures as well.

The Kellogg Crunchy QR Campaign

A few years ago, Kellogg implemented a novel marketing campaign in order to promote their new crunchy nut cereal. The idea was simple. They wanted to instantly connect with their customers and keep them engaged with their brand and products. The marketing team decided to print a QR code on the back of the cereal carton which when scanned would lead the customer to their web page. The idea was simple and effective in theory. But due to the lack of engaging content on the landing page, it was not a huge success. The landing page just contained three simple content slabs with nothing engaging.

The idea of using QR codes to engage the customer can be extremely effective. If the landing page of Kellogg contained useful information that the consumer could use, such as cereal recipes, customer feedback page, online games or contests, it would have been a huge success. QR codes are an extremely cost-effective and easy-to-implement idea that is gaining enormous popularity. Through the effective placing of QR codes, virtually any printable surface can be converted into a portal for a digital platform. By accurately and creatively placing such QR codes, customers can be reached from a diverse number of channels. Additionally, by combining the delivery of the service or product and QR codes, customers can be given direct access to company portals through their product itself.
